Hi All, I’ve done this mod before, but does anyone know if there's a resistor in the spark plug cap on 9R's?
If so here's a quick, cheap and good performance mod to do:
- remove spark plug cap from the spark plug (do 1 at a time)
- shine a mini torch light inside and you should see a flathead screw
- undo the screw and out it will fall, along with a little resistor, then a spring.
- get a STAINLESS STEEL bolt the same diameter as the resistor (4 or 5mm) and cut (Dremel) the dead off the bolt so the stem measures the same length as the resistor
- then put the spring back in the spark plug cap, followed by the stainless rod (ex-bolt), then finally the screw and re-tighten.
This mod makes the spark hotter and cleaner making starting / engine performance more crisp. The hotter the spark, the more combustion, the bigger the bang. A great simple mod - that works! The resistor is only in there to stop interference with Am radios (weird but true).
Enjoy
Cheers

Re: Spark Plug Mod
Just checked inside my B2 coils - no screw or suchlike .. only a clip to attach onto the top of the plug ..
But then again, the B is the fastest model anyway, so it probably doesn't need that extra boost!

Re: Spark Plug Mod
Yeah, wasn't sure if the 9R's had these caps, but this mod work on loads of bikes (sports and dirbikes), worth checking if you've got more than 1 bike. Works as treat.
