markings on head and bearing cover

Post by zx-9fighter »

I have just aquired and new head for the c1 after the nasty noise/long walk home incedent. and on striping down the engine I have noticed markings on the head K27.23 on original and H26.120 on replacement, also on the bearing cover 23 on top and 11.10 underneath all written in marker type pen do theses figures have any meanings.
I have also noticed on the replacement bearing cover underside that some of the casting has been filed away in places like you would grind down a weld and there are no file marks on the origanal. just small round protrusions in the casting.

All the pistons are ok as is the crankshaft the only reason for knackering the valves I can think of is that the cam chain must have skiped a link and messed up the timing. I will be checking the chain shortly for size and wear also do the cam chain tensioners usualy cause any problems. should I bin the original or are they serviceable.

Thanks for the interest and any help.

Matt
