Hi all this is how i did my headgasket and i reground the valves in and fitted new valve seals.

Here it goes

To start you will have to take off the seat, tank side fairings,
Drain the coolant and take of the rad off , then take the exhaust off , drain the oil while the oil is draining you can take off the air box
and the carbs, and now the engine is ready to come out.

ok the engine is out
now put it some wear you can work on it comfortably,

Image

Ok you will have to time it up before you take it apart.
Take out the plugs (this makes it easy to turn the engine over) Take the side cover off and the rocker cover,
You will need a 19m spanner to turn over the engine and set the timing up

Image

To time it, you need to get the TDC on the crank and the two lines on the cams aline once thats done you need to take the cam chain tenisioner off

Image

First undo the nut on the tenisioner (theres a spring behind the nut so take it easy)Then undo the two allen bolts out and then the tenisioner out ,This will make the chain lose so the cams and come off, there are 5 cam covers that hold the cams in ,at this point make a note ware they go as they are numbered 1-4 the 5th one has two shims in witch aline the cams up ,
Once the cams are off,
Take the right hand side cover off and the oil pipe ,Then there are 12 allen head bolts you have to undo i started at the middle and worked out ,on the cam side there are two 6m allen bolts witch need undoing and then the head is ready to come off,

Image

Ok now the head is off you can check to see if its warped by putting a straight edge across the head
Image

If all is ok then just clean the head and the face of the engine and put it all back

OK at this point i had to regrind the valves in and put in new valve oil seals in
:D

Ok before you put your head back on you can do the shims, put one off your cams in and bolt it down,to move the cam just get a flat screw driver to turn the cam,
Once you done you can refit the head. leave it over night to settle then recheck the tork setting if all ok now you are ready to refit the engine ,
The reverse off takeing it out,
Start it up get it nice and warm check and balance the carbs and then your done
:D :D :D

Yeah.... I remember it well :D

I remember a bastard engine mounting bolt that wouldn't come out and a stripped thread on the spacer on that same top bolt. Fun times :D
