This is more a how not to really, whatever you might have been told Z1000 barrels and pistons DO NOT fit the 9r without major mods so please don't waste your money.
Below are from the top zx9r e1 middle early Z1000 and bottom late z1000
as you can see without new frame mounts or welding mounts on the barrels in the correct place neither easy or advisable they don't fit.

hi, I may be wrong but if the bottom one fits ok apart from the mounting holes can you just make a small adapter bracket to
bolt onto the existing lug to lift the hole up to the 9 height?

The engine doesn't just hang on the mounts it's used as a stressed member and is clamped between the frame rails, if it was a couple of brackets believe me I would have done it as I'm not afraid of a bit of fabrication 😉
That's not to say it can't be done it's just more work than it's worth!

A few years since, Taffffy, who used to own West Wales Motorcycles, tried having the mounts cut off ZX9 barrels and welded onto early Z1000 ones. I think he ran into a load of trouble with the heat distorting the plot :cry:
