Hi Everyone,
I bought my 9 nearly a year ago now and i absolutley love it. I desperately wanted a sports bike but at 6'4 with long legs i was finding it really hard to find anything that fitted. Eventually i came across the ZX-9 and absolutely fell in love with it. I managed to find a 2000 E1 in Candy lightning blue and havent regretted it for a single second, even when someone decided to try and steal it it Cardiff earlier in the year and failed. The bike had done quite a few miles when i picked it up ~40k but it still ran and rode brilliantly so its not something that worries me. The bodywork was always a little suspect and it had clearly been dropped at some point.

However, about 3 weeks ago i managed to low side it when i hit some mud on a corner late at night, I came off absolutely fine, very small scuff in leathers (wearing full kit) and my helmet never touched the ground so thankful for that. I did manage to mess the bike up fairly well though, reasonable bodywork damage, bent shifter and scuffed engine cover. Luckily the cheapy crach bungs saved most of it though.

Im in the middle of prepping the fairings for a respray as i quite fancy having a go at it myself, even though it is a candy paint (any advice must appreciated).

but i was hoping someone could help me identify the cover i need to replace on the engine, i havent got around to buying a haynes for it yet but it is on the to do list.

Anyway, apologies for the slightly rambling post, any help or advice appreciated.

Thanks

Matt

Stator cover. Get a cheap ebay ally copy, and check the screws go into the cover before fitting the stator.

I'm not a sprayer but I know Spraying candy blue is hard and depends on the silver undercoat and how you spray it on, crisscross the spray and have the nose and side panels next to each other so the colours match up afterwards.

Please will forum members put their bike model letter, & 1 or 2 after their Profile Location. eg: Your Town & B1,2,3,4 C1,2 E1,2 F1,2
As all zx9's are all slightly different, and I get fed up having to ask which model & number, as year may not be accurate.

Greetings,
Candy finish just takes a little more time, find yerself a local paint supplier, not seen any of the Kwack candy's on the shade cards at my supplier .
Candy finish...
Not possible to do spot repair, you'l need to work to nearest swage or colour line
Candy finish which is translucent colour coat is sprayed over silver/bronze/gold metallic basecoates usually ,
to do a zx9 your looking at 7/9 days work and that's being super keen

Thanks for the help guys, I thought it was the starter cover but wanted to run a sanity check first.

Ive had a look at as many tutorials, videos and how to guides as possible with regards to spraying, especially Candy colours, it does seem like a massive undertaking for a first project.

I think if i can take my time and make sure the prep work is good then hopefully it will come out ok at the other end. I dont really want to spray it another colour as i love this one so much. I was hoping to use a Toyota metallic silver as a base coat - the Rav needs some attention after its previous owner.

Thanks

Matt

Thanks for all the input guys, ordered one of the starter motor covers from Ebay and despite arriving manby weeks ahead of schedule.....it doesnt fit. So that still needs to be recitified. Luckily the old one is ok to use at the moment even if it doesnt look lovely.

Ive managed to repair the fairings to the best of my ability and even bought a spare tail piece to try and emulate that of an F without having to change the frame. I wanted the clean look but without losing the ability to change to the original and use my topbox or grab handles should the need arise for more than short journys. So with that in mind i thought i would post a few pictures so i can share progress.

Only 297 days late, or 69 days early if you prefer.

I understood i needed to change the subframe to fit an F tail piece? If i dont need to then i might have gone to a lot of trouble to get nearly the same result......Whoops.
